Remote visual inspection
Remote visual inspection is the assessment of an asset’s visible condition by a reviewer who is not physically present at the asset.
Last updated:
The reviewer receives live or recorded views collected by someone at the equipment. The inspection is the judgement about condition, rather than the recording itself. Its scope must distinguish what can be established visually from what needs measurements, physical access or qualified on-site examination.
How it works in field service
A service team defines the question, required views, equipment identifiers and safe capture limits. A customer, site contact or technician collects the requested evidence. The reviewer checks whether it is sufficient, records the finding and requests a specific follow-up or arranges attendance where necessary.
Before dispatch, this can clarify a reported fault and preparation needs. During a visit, it can support specialist review. At completion, it can document the condition left. Record the decision with the job or asset, and retain evidence under agreed access and retention arrangements. Video does not replace mandatory inspections, safety checks or authorised sign-off.
