Guided video capture

Guided video capture is a recording process that prompts the person at an asset to collect specified views, photos and answers for a service decision.

Instead of requesting an unspecified clip, the service team defines what should be shown and why. Guidance can include an overview, an accessible equipment label, a fault display and relevant close views. Instructions should match the recorder’s role, authorisation and safe access.

How it works in field service

The organisation configures a sequence for a particular request type. The person recording opens the capture link in a phone browser and follows the steps. Video, photos, equipment details and checklist answers are submitted together for review, rather than spread across separate conversations.

A reviewer assesses whether the evidence answers the service question. Missing information leads to a targeted follow-up; uncertainty may still require attendance. Customer instructions must not ask for exposed wiring, unsafe access or unauthorised work. Technician instructions can include authorised checks appropriate to their competence. The aim is a usable case record for triage, escalation or completion review, not footage collected without a decision in mind.
