Proof of work

Proof of work in field service is evidence of the task performed and the condition left, kept with the relevant job or asset record.

Last updated:

It concerns service documentation, not a claim that a recording alone proves every technical requirement. A useful record connects the reported issue, work undertaken, components involved and completion checks. The required evidence depends on the task and the organisation’s authorised procedures.

How it works in field service

Before leaving the site, a technician follows the agreed completion sequence. Comparable views show the condition found and left. Photos, authorised readings and checklist answers document relevant work and equipment checks. The evidence remains attached to the job for a supervisor or other authorised reviewer.

The reviewer checks the record against the agreed standard and requests clarification where something is missing or inconsistent. Relevant evidence can support handovers, customer questions and warranty enquiries under the agreed sharing rules. It does not replace mandatory inspections, safety checks or qualified sign-off. Define who may access the record, how long it is retained and which evidence is appropriate to share outside the team.
